Town Council Voting

Voting for the Ilkley Town Council is different from voting in a General Election. In a General Election, we have one vote to elect an MP, but in the Ilkley Town Council election, we have either three or four votes that we can cast, depending on which ward we live in. The Council has fourteen councillors, who are elected all together every four years.

On May 4th, you will be asked to vote for a District Councillor to represent you on Bradford MDC, and for three or four of the fourteen Town Councillors for Ilkley Town Council.

Ilkley is divided into four wards: Ilkley West, Ilkley North, Ilkley South, and Ben Rhydding. The number of councillors that can be elected in each ward varies. and you get one vote for each council seat that is in your ward:

  • Ilkley West: If you live in this ward, you can vote for up to 4 councillors.
  • Ilkley North: If you live in this ward, you can vote for up to 3 councillors.
  • Ilkley South: If you live in this ward, you can vote for up to 3 councillors.
  • Ben Rhydding: If you live in this ward, you can vote for up to 4 councillors.

It's important to use all your votes and not to waste any. For example, if you normally vote for a particular party, you can still vote for them, but you can also use your remaining votes to support the Independent candidates who have formed the Ilkley Community Alliance.

By using all your votes, you can help ensure that the councillors elected are truly representative of the community and its needs. So, please take the time to research the candidates and their policies, and use all your votes to make your voice heard.
